The new baler being installed at the clients factory in Telford.

Magna Specialist Confectioners, Telford

Chocolate specialists Magna, who produce 20,000 tonnes of chocolate per year, needed to upgrade its baler.

The original machine had been installed in 2001 and after 19 years of service needed to be replaced with a new machine due to its age an overhaul was needed on the machine which wasn’t possible on-site.

Working on behalf of one of the WHS trade customers to provide support with: acquiring, part-exchanging, delivering, removing and installing of a new baler.

Saphir 500AT

The baler in operation was a Saphir 500AT. It had been so reliable for Magna they chose to replace it like-for-like with a brand new Saphir 500AT.

On-top of the upgraded capabilities of the new machine Magna added a bin-lift and cage to the new baler. The bin-lift was required to accommodate for other waste recycling produced.

Both the new 500AT and the decommissioned 500AT being manoeuvred in the factory.

Installation Challenge

One of the key challenges of supplying this baler was the available space and time to complete the removal and installation of the new.

The factory needed to continue normal activities and not be disrupted by the old baler being removed and the new balers installation.

A low head height within the factory and the need to get the removal and installation of the new baler done over a day provided pressure on everything to go smoothly.

With only one loading bay available both balers needed to be moved in a strategic manor to get one in and the other out.

Bin Lift

Magna chose to add a bin lift and cage to the new machine which previously they hadn’t had. This bin-lift allowed for other waste recycling produced around the factory to be collected and loaded into the baler.
